Park Theatre present a staged reading of

The Rover

by Aphra Ben in a new adaptation by Loveday Ingram

Aphra Behn’s The Rover is a very early piece of feminist drama, written in 1670. It is the debauched, anarchic story of three young women's attempts to escape masculine control, arranged marriages and convents and the exiled English solders they meet and fall in love with. The Rover is a vibrant, comedic Restoration play. It is about desire, about drink, about partying, about self discovery and about the rejection of authority. Willmore –‘The Rover’, is a solder out of control, a wild untamed anti-hero who wreaks havoc where ever he goes.

The Rover is one of the earliest plays written by a woman to be professionally produced in London and also one of the first to be performed in London with women playing women’s roles.

Please note that this is a Staged Reading not a full production. All tickets are £6.
