A squat in Finsbury Park becomes home for an unruly community of misfits. Performed by participants of our Park Theatre Company.

Refuge

By Martin Murphy

"It’s not a guardian property, we can tear this place apart”

A squat in Finsbury Park becomes home for an unruly community of misfits, but when they realise nobody is making them leave, the unrest and divisions they were rooting for arise between themselves instead.

Theresa tries to keep order in the commune as battle lines are drawn between those who want to gut the house for short term profit and those looking to maintain a sustainable existence. Add to the pot a jealous lover, a pill-popping bombshell and a talented musician searching for her lost son, and things soon get close to boiling over, but there’s no way out.

In the face of the climate emergency, Martin Murphy’s new drama acts as a microcosm of the crisis, but does so through the lens of humour, hope and humanity.

Performed by our excellent Park Theatre Company, Refuge follows on from director Amy Allen & writer Martin Murphy’s previous collaboration Jury, which received an OnComm Commendation from the Off West End Awards.
