Exhibition: John O'Leary Picture Book Illustrations

by John O'Leary

Local resident, John O’Leary is a popular author, illustrator and paper engineer of over thirteen successful children’s books with Frances Lincoln and Tango Books, many with a particular emphasis on discovery, game-play and illusion. His titles include Detective Paws and the Case of the Golden Cat, The Big Match and the recently published Goldilocks - the first in his Fairytale Colours series.

As well as designing pop-ups for his picture books, he has constructed giant pop-ups for a public art trail in Islington and for ‘Pop-up Flashback’, a Wordpepper Theatre Production presented by Half Moon Theatre. He is a regular visitor to schools where he talks about his work and runs workshops in pop-up book design.

The artwork for all John’s books is produced using a combination of traditional and digital media. Most of the illustrations start as pen and ink outline drawings which are then scanned and further developed in photoshop where the colour is also added. The final artwork exists in digital form only.

The work in the exhibition consists of archival prints, from editions of 25, signed and numbered, which were produced at the London Print Studio on 290gsm A2 Ilford Gallerie Pearl paper using Epson Ultrachrome pigment inks.

All prints are for sale and are from signed limited editions of 25
